The Repair Artist’s Way

It’s time to level up your repairs business.

A 4-week live cohort for clothing repair artists who are ready to grow—on their own terms.

You don’t need a studio to be taken seriously.
You don’t need to hustle to be seen.
And you definitely don’t need to burn out to make a living from the work you love.

But what you do need?

→ A business that honours your craft, your time, and your values
→ A pricing structure that feels good to say out loud
→ A way to show up online that doesn’t make you cringe
→ And the confidence to say: “Yes I do run a real business.”

Hi, I’m Gay.

I’m a repair artist, educator, and mentor based in Nottingham, working from my back bedroom and sewing on the good side of the fashion industry.

I ran a busy sewing studio for years—fully booked, on paper thriving… and completely burnt out. In early 2024, I closed the studio, went home, and built a business that works for me. Since then, I’ve mentored repair artists around the UK and beyond, spoken at events and universities, and built a slower, purpose-led business that finally feels like mine.

Now, I want to help you do the same.

Undercharging (because you think you're not “qualified enough”)

This is for the repair artists, the menders, the quiet creatives who are ready to stop…

Comparing yourself to others with fancy studios and perfect setups

Feeling invisible, stuck, or unsure how to actually grow

And start…

Charging what you’re really worth

Showing up online in a way that feels authentically you.

Building a business that’s structured, visible, and feels doable

Over four weeks, we’ll cover:

  • Pricing with confidence
Know what your time, skill, and labour is actually worth and how to charge for it (without guilt).

  • Showing up online (without feeling like an idiot)
Visibility in a way that feels like you. Clear, human content that doesn’t require trends, reels, or being “on” all the time.

  • Business rhythms & systems
Back-of-house tips to calm the chaos bookings, content, communication, and boundaries that keep you sane.

  • Work/life balance
Create a working day that works for you so you can dedicate as much time to the extra things you love in life!

  • Mindset & self-worth shifts
Because sometimes the only thing standing between you and a sustainable business… is the story you’re telling yourself.

  • Real-talk support
Get honest answers to the hard questions and a supportive group to bounce off along the way.

Weekly Flow:

  • Theme: You’re not starting over—you’re starting from experience.

We’re kicking off with a bit of myth-busting. What is success when you’re no longer chasing trends, shops, or followers?

    We’ll:

    • Rewrite what success means to you (not what Instagram says it should be)

    • Own your story as your strategy—because there’s only one YOU

    • Get clear on what your business actually needs to feel sustainable

    • Dive into a full Repair Business Audit (the honest, messy, freeing kind)

Outcome: You’ll leave this week knowing where you stand, what matters to you, and what you’re done tolerating in your business. Let’s strip back the noise and find your rhythm again.

  • Theme: Our work has worth. Let’s make sure your rates reflect it.

Time to tackle the money stuff—without shame, spreadsheets, or second-guessing. You are allowed to charge well and keep your work rooted in purpose.

    We’ll:

    • Unpack the most common pricing traps repair artists fall into

    • Build a values-led pricing structure (not just time-for-cash swaps)

    • Factor in invisible labour—because emotional labour is labour

    • Practice quoting without apology or discounting your worth

Outcome: You’ll walk away with a pricing model that feels like yours—solid, repeatable, and rooted in self-respect.

BONUS: A gentle DIY pricing workbook to help you build your numbers from scratch (or rebuild them with intention).

  • Theme: Communicating your value when you're tired of explaining

Let’s get into the storytelling side of your business—because if people don’t get it, they can’t value it. This week is all about language, clarity, and claiming your creative role.

    We’ll:

    • Translate your work into words people actually understand

    • Talk about repair as a craft and an art, not a side hustle

    • Position yourself without over-explaining, over-apologising, or shrinking

Outcome: You’ll have the tools to talk about your work in a way that feels strong, grounded, and finally clear.

  • Theme: Showing up online—your way

This one’s for anyone who’s ever said “I don’t know what to post” or “I hate talking on camera” (me too, sometimes).

    We’ll:

    • Redefine what visibility looks like for your energy and style

    • Break down content that connects without chasing algorithms

    • Talk to your people like you talk to your people

Outcome: A working visibility plan that doesn’t burn you out—and actually feels like something you’ll stick with.

BONUS: Access to my real-life Content Planning Flow - home for your ideas, planning, and gentle structure.

“I don’t feel experienced enough to charge properly.”

Things I hear from repair artists all the time:

“I’m passionate… but I just can’t seem to get enough clients.”

“I don’t have a studio, so I feel like I’m not professional.”

If you’re nodding along, this cohort is for you.

Common Threads (aka, what we’re unpicking together):

  • Inconsistent income

  • Pricing anxiety

  • Feeling invisible online

  • No clear systems

  • Working from home but not feeling “legit”

  • Comparing yourself to others with more gear, space, or time

    You’ll walk away with:

    → A values-aligned pricing structure
→ A simple, custom content plan
→ Real-world systems you can stick to
→ A clearer message + more confident mindset
→ A supportive community of repair artists
→ A slower, more grounded way forward
