Hey, I’m Gay.
I'm Gay. I run Lived-In Repairs from the back bedroom of my home in Nottingham and I've been working on the good side of the fashion industry for over 20 years.
And here's the thing nobody tells you when you start doing this work: pricing is the hardest part.
It's where we put so much pressure on ourselves. Where the self-doubt lives. Where the voice that says "you can't charge that" gets the loudest.
There was no handbook. No one sat me down and showed me how to work this out. I figured it out as I went - through undercharging, burning out, rebuilding, and slowly getting honest about what I actually needed to earn to make this work as a real livelihood. That process is what shaped me. And it's what shaped this guide.
I also coined the term repair artist - and watching it ripple through the community gives me proper proud mum energy. Because words matter. How you talk about your work matters. And so does knowing your worth.
